Suri House

With a built up area of 7500 sft. On a plot area of 12000 sft, this four-bedroom house with an open flow plan was conceived of as a play of masses and voids from the exterior. White walls were juxtaposed with distinctive exposed concrete roof slabs that seemingly float over them. A controlled hint of yellow ochre on certain planes, and slit windows with wooden slats maintain privacy while also allowing for opening out to the views.

On entry, monoliths in local Sadarahalli stone lead up to a yellow feature wall with a brass mural of a fruit tree. A slatted timber door with a single operable panel leads into the double height foyer with a ceiling in exposed polished cement. The formal zones rest on the ground floor and informal on the first floor intentionally delineating public from private space.

The foyer opens up into a seamless space for living, dining and entertaining, opening into decks that overlook a pool and tropical garden with coconut and fruit trees.

The staggered plan allows for pockets of green although with a primary orientation towards the northeast garden. A courtyard on the western side allows for natural breezes to flow from west to east into the dining on the ground floor and family room on the first floor.
