Kashyap House

In this residence, we created the L-shaped orientation of the house along the north and western edges of the site, thus allowing for a large garden lung space on the south and east. The Entrance is defined by a mud coloured wall that emerges from the garage and playfully steps down and up, leading to an entry court.

Two primary axes define the living experience on the ground level – an east-west axis flowing from living to dining to side court and a north-south axis flowing from the living/dining to verandah to the main garden.

On the upper level the master bedroom and the two children’s rooms congregate into the hub of informal activity – the family room. This room is defined by the most recognizable feature of the house – a hovering skewed cantilevered roof that dramatically perches itself atop the built form. Akin to a bird about to take flight, the light roof clad in a brown Andhra slate juxtaposes itself from the otherwise orthogonal house, its vast cantilevered form supported by a series of articulated diagonal struts.
