In this unique project set off a 12 acre pearl shaped island in one of the South ‘Atolls’ in the Maldives, we were asked to design 16 over water luxury Villas on a separate lagoon, set 400 meters out into the ocean from the main resort.
The water villas were to have their own jetty, and be self sufficient in terms of service from the rest of the spa resort.
We created an Eco-sensitive and sustainable architecture of timber and thatch on stilts that would blend well with the islands foliage and environment. Special care was taken in our planning to preserve the rich variety of corals and marine life beneath.
We designed the villas as clusters of rooms with pyramidal roof forms opening out into a central open deck with a private infinity plunge pools blending into the horizon. Each villa is comprised of 2 bedrooms and a living room in a C- shaped arrangement flanking the open deck. Bedrooms have their, own en suite bathrooms with walk in wardrobes and open to sky showers.
The positioning of the villas in an elongated convex shape linked by timber walkways ensured that each room would get maximum privacy from the adjacent villa while enjoying unobstructed views of the crystal blue Maldivian waters.
