The complex requirement of a joint family along with stringent Vastu considerations was fulfilled in this six-bedroom house. Two independent L-shaped units came together to integrate into a single dwelling. The verandah or ‘Baithak’ is the connector between the units and flanks a lush central courtyard garden.
The house is protected from sun and rain with adequate pergolas and large sloping overhangs that emphasize the two master bedrooms on the upper level. The house is nestled in one of the oldest and greenest residential areas of Bangalore, with its tall flowering trees. The vocabulary of slatted/latticed timber jaali screens, polished cement walls, patterned terrazzo tiles and local stone resonate with the natural surroundings
